It’s the start of autumn with Halloween just around the corner! If you’re looking for cute, creative costumes that don’t cost a bank, you’ve come to the right place. Below are ten fun, easy, bee-inspired costumes!
1. Bumble/Honey bee
There are a few differences between honey bees and bumblebees. Bumblebees are rounder and live in colonies of a few hundred. Next, honeybees have longer, pointier abdomens, and can live in colonies up to 80,000 bees! Also, honeybees produce surplus honey whereas bumblebees do not. However, this costume is believable for either.

2. Queen Bee
In bee colonies, queens don’t exactly “rule” by giving each and every bee instructions; they produce pheromones to help organize the bees and they lay eggs. However, this queen bee costume will certainly command attention and bring out your inner royalty.

To diy this costume…
The basic components, the top, bottom, and shoes, of this costume are the same as the bumble/honey bee one since queen bees look very similar to drone and worker bees.

3. Honeycomb/Hive
Bees are known as one of the best builders in the animal kingdom. With incredible consistency, they build mathematically optimal beeswax honeycomb to store honey and to house their young. Beehives are composed of numerous slabs of honeycomb. Like building actual honeycomb or beehives, the honeycomb costume and hive costume will require a little bit of diy.
Honeycomb DIY:
- Yellow dress ($11.99 Forever21, $10 Shein) or shirt ($2.19 DiscountMugs, $7.99 Gap)
- Black pants, tights or leggings
- Black shoes (heels, boots, sneakers)
- Optional fascinator ($74 Etsy)
- For the honeycomb:
Take some yellow paper plates ($3.18 24 pieces Oriental Trading), crimp the edges into approximate hexagon shapes and glue the edges together. Attach onto dress, shirt, and/or pants using thread, staples, or hot glue

4. Honeypot
8,000 years before the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the eighteen century, people consumed honey in the form of honeycomb. After the industrial revolution, honey could be separated from the comb, and further proccessed into the fine, clear liquid in jars we see today at supermarkets.
- Add black long sleeved shirts, bottoms, and shoes
- Accessorize with a honey pot purse ($14.99 Halloween Costumes)
Here’s an adorable honeypot costume for pets too!
5. Beekeeper
Beekeeping has been a prominent part of human civilization since 7000 BCE, perhaps earlier (bbc.com). A beekeeper’s gear protects him or her from getting stung, so covers most of the skin.
