Backroad Beekeeping - Creamed Honey
Creamed Honey from Backroad Beekeeping

If you’re looking for the perfect honey to spread on toast or to grace your next charcuterie board, Creamed Honey might be the sweet addition you never knew you needed. While we’re used to the traditional bottled honey bothered straight from the beehive, Creamed honey offers a unique butter-like consistency crafted from the liquid honey we see on the shelf at the grocery store.

What is Creamed Honey?

Many people often assume that Creamed Honey contains cream or another ingredient to give it the smooth texture and look while having it remain an all-natural product made from raw honey. This actually isn’t true at all – Creamed Honey is 100% raw honey (without any additives).

Creamed honey is created in a cooling process that results in crystallization (often like what you would see happen with raw liquid honey over time). Instead of the more crunchy texture you get from a regular crystallized liquid honey that was left in your pantry, the specific crystallization of the Creamed Honey gives it an opaque and smooth consistency.

Although the use of Creamed Honey had been seen in the United States as early as in 1935, it gained most of its popularity in European countries. However, more recently, the amount of Creamed Honey lovers in the United States has been growing steadily. Today, Creamed Honey has grown widely popular as a flavored honey option. The unique crystallization process of Creamed Honey makes it the perfect vessel to add spices or other natural ingredients, allowing for an infusion of flavor in every jar. From simple additions of raw cinnamon or fresh lemon, Creamed Honey is able to pack a punch of the flavors we love for every occasion in a buttery, spreadable, sweet form.

Since Creamed Honey does have a smooth, solid texture, it is best to keep the honey stored at room temperature. If the honey gets too warm, it will appear more runny and liquidy. In these instances, it’s best to pop your creamed honey in the fridge until it returns to its soft, spreadable form.

Ways to Use Creamed Honey

There are many different ways to use creamed honey and that you’ll soon wonder how you lived life without it. Creamed Honey is a sweet addition to any cheeseboard, enhances many desserts and even can be used in lieu of jelly (or added to!) your next peanut butter sandwich.

Creamed Honey can also take your baking to the next level by adding it to your buttercream frosting, topped on fresh cookies and piped on warm pastries for an added sweet touch without having to gather all the ingredients for frosting from the grocery store.

The magic of Creamed Honey doesn’t stop with food. Try adding it to a hot cup of tea, add some sweet creaminess to your morning coffee, or an extra flavor element to some steamed milk.
